How fast can your thumbs move?

Have you seen the commerical with the two middle aged parents trying to text on their phones while their teenagers look at them in disgust? Texting has become this huge phenomenon and teaching our parents how to do it is like teaching my grandma how to use a computer. The technology world has given us a new (well sort of new) gadget for kids to get annoyed at their parents with. I know that my sister, who is starting college in the fall, gets aggrevated with her mom because when she sends her a text, instead of texting back she calls. My stepmom feels that it takes to long to type out what she could just say in seconds, but to my sister this is an inconvenience because then she has to answer her phone when it is faster for her just to type out what she wants to say.

I can’t wait to see what they come up with when Luci is older so that she can roll her eyes at me. Luckily for her, John and I are pretty up to date on a lot of electronic stuff so maybe she won’t be as frustrated with us in that realm. John even reads a website every day about new technology products that are coming onto the market, so for the time being we can be cool parents.

Well, my dad thinks the whole parents texting at the rate of a turtle is  hilarious and wants to capitalize on this and wants to set up some sort of website. As, his 28 year old daughter, I tend to roll my eyes at this whole situation because I know that I will be the one creating the website. But I thought the least I could do is help him to try and come up with an idea.  My thought is wouldn’t it be great to have some kind of discussion board/ video/picture site where parents can send in situations where their teenagers think they are the stupidest people in the world and other people can discuss the whole generation gap. Yes, this is just an idea, but something that sounds like it needs to be address. Especially, if my dad who is not really technologically sound thinks that it is a good idea.

My question to parents with older children is there something that your children are consistently rolling their eyes about because you are “doing it wrong”? And what would you think of a website/discussion board that allows parents to share their woes about their teenagers/children in a light fashioned way? What is your generation gap?
